lady spring

lady spring and her attendant company.

she smells like dirt

and sounds like a chorus of flutes.

she is half dead and alive,

straddling the two,

bringing us through

to the other side.

she is youthful

playful

hopeful

endlessly creative.

she is ancient

ritualistic

trustworthy

knowing

wise.

she has an effect. like gravity. that pulls my body into the grass and draws my hands into the soil and warms my clothes the closer i get to the ground until all i want is to lie here in the not dead and not alive, not wet and not dry grass, and close my eyes or look at the sky and listen to the birds and the wind and the cars and the kids screaming down the street at the elementary school and wonder if i can just live here, in the grass, forever.
